New Book & New Series
Only six days left until the release of Revisionary, the fourth and final book in the Magic ex Libris series. My box of author copies showed up this week, and I gotta say, seeing all four books sitting together on my ego shelf is a beautiful thing.
Book Giveaway: I’ve got a newsletter going out next week, and as usual, I’ll be picking one subscriber at random to get a free autographed book. You can sign up here or by emailing goblin-updates+subscribe@googlegroups.com.

Other: I don’t even know what else to say. This has been a long journey, starting way back in July of 2009 with a short story called “Mightier than the Sword” in Gamer Fantastic. I love that I was able to show the growth of Isaac and the other characters over the course of the series, as well as the larger changes in the world. While there aren’t any more Magic ex Libris books planned, I’m hoping to return to that world with some shorter-to-mid-length work as I have time.
Which brings me to news item number two…

In addition to author copies, this week’s mail also brought a letter from my agent:
As one series ends, another begins. I’m signing a deal to write three new books for DAW, currently known as the “Untitled” series, because I suck at series titles. I can tell you this much, however.
- These will be SF, not fantasy.
- I want to get back to my more humorous roots with this trilogy.
- Anything else I say now may change once I actually start writing the books.
The deadline for book one is around the end of 2016, so I’d expect the first one to see print in mid-to-late 2017. Possibly early 2018, depending on various things, but I’d guess 2017.
In summary, I’m very happy to continue working with DAW, and I’m also happy to have job security for at least the next two years 🙂

OOooooo good for you, sir! We usually end up buying your books in pairs – print for me, audio for my husband. So, ya know, we gotta love ya!

Dying for Revisionary to arrive. Re-reading the others while I wait. “Final”??? wah, I love these people – they’re not characters to me, they’re my friends. As I’m re-reading them & laughing out loud in the lunch room, I’m recommending them to my co-workers. And the fairy tale books too. Because those rock — I may have to re-read them, too. Cannot wait for the new books.

My local indie book store emailed me today that y copy of Revisionary is in; I’ll have to wait until Friday (my self-selected single Errand Day per week) to get it – but I just noticed there’s a story called “How Isaak met Smudge” – gottagonowthxbye

New series: Jig’s in SPAAAACE
sorry.
But seriously, I have loved all your fantasy series. Do you have any short stories on Riana after she was transformed? That was such a lovely ending/beginning for her.

Congrats, Jim! I can’t wait to get my hands on them.
And I convinced my local library to buy a copy!

I’m getting the ebook through B&N thanks to the wonder of preorders. AND I have a gift certificate, so I’m getting it free but Jim’s still getting royalties!

Space goblins. That could be fun…
I don’t have any post-book Riana stories right now, I’m afraid. Maybe one of these days.

Yay!
The story was a guest piece for a website, but it was a fun little bit to write.

Thanks, Becky! And yeah…this will be the last Magic ex Libris book, at least for a while. Though I may try to write some shorter-length stuff, depending on how my schedule looks with the new series.

Thanks, Kerry! And I honestly don’t know. Next convention is Millennicon in Ohio, but if I remember right, that’s not one of your usual cons.

Congratulations on all accounts, sir. ^_^ Looking forward to REVISIONARY like crazy; recently reread the first three books so I’m ready to dive in once it gets here. And I’m interested to see what you come up with writing SF.

Basically my final decision on whether or not to preorder the Kindle of Revisionary like I was tempted or wait until the price dropped because my to-read list is huge came down to you’re nice, work hard, and just went full pro recently and I think you deserve the extra percentage. Looking forward to it appearing genii-like in my device.
Also, I just read the first five Little House on the Prairie books, and while reading “Farmer Boy”, I fantasized about using libriomancy to pull the delectably-described food dishes out of the book. Then I fantasized about doing the same with a Redwall book. Congratulations. The concept born from your brain has entered my personal fantasy mythos, up there with shadowwalking from Amber and other abilities.

I’ve been going through Revisionary withdrawals since I finished it last week (I hope my review brings you in some readers!) so I’m super glad to know you’re doing a new series. And sci-fi! Yay!

Reading this post a couple of days late means it’s now only four days now to Revisionary! And a new series coming. Even better! I resisted squealing out loud only because I’m in the quiet reading room at the library, but I did bounce a few times.

As with the prior books in this series, I will be purchasing three copies of Revisionary. Two hardcovers for the kids and a Kindle edition for myself. It’s not that we don’t share things, it’s more like we can’t help discussing the book as soon as we finish it.
