CODEX BORN IS DONE!
At 12:59 p.m. today, I turned in the final (I hope), revised manuscript for Codex Born [Amazon | B&N | Mysterious Galaxy]. Some random stats about the book:
- It came in at 104,527 words.
- There are 39 books in the bibliography.
- In addition to English, there are snippets from at least six other languages. (I apologize in advance to whoever will be reading the audio book…)
- Smudge once again gets a pretty cool scene.
- While I doubt I’ll ever write professional erotica, this book has what’s probably the “spiciest” scene I’ve ever done.
- Yes, this book will address–at least to some extent–the question of e-books and libriomancy.
The release is still scheduled for August 6 of this year. I’ll be posting the first chapter online as we get a bit closer to that date, once the book has been officially accepted.
This was a challenging one, but I’m proud of how it turned out, and I can’t wait to share it with you all.

Woooooooooot! Well done!
Congratulations!
YAY! Congratulations!
Great news Jim!
I do wonder though…if the new book was 104,527 words, where did the final version of Libromancer come in at? I always wonder about the word counts of books and their respective published lengths, so I thought I would ask.
Cheers!
Libriomancer was 101,981 words.
Wow – thanks!
So, you rocked this new one out in 5 months, right (I seen a reference to this on your Facebook post). That is some great work. Are you starting right into the third one now? With that kind of page, two complete books a year would be boss
I wish. No, I’ve been working on this one for 14 months. Though there have been multiple drafts, so the five month thing might have referred to starting in on version 3 or 4 of the book…
Ahh…I see. Well it is still a good turn around time considering you also have the day job and have your family life and all.
Can’t wait to read the Codex Born!
Thanks, all!!!
Congratulations, Jim! I’m excited for the release, as fast as this year seems to be going by, it will be out before you know it. You better rest up now…
Spicy Smudge scene sensuousness? Wait, what? Oh, and w00t!
Well, i have to say this weekend starts quite on a good note
. Thank you!
P.S. Will there be any ARC or eARC as e.g. David Weber does them?
My understanding is that DAW will be sending out bound manuscripts to reviewers, but I don’t know exactly when that will happen.
Thanks, but i am afraid they won’t include me in that list. David Weber makes the un-redacted eArcs available for everyone (who pays). Any time he brings out a new book, i can’t wait to read which part of Honor Harrington he shoots of next
.
Congratulations, Jim! I’m really looking forward to the release of Codex Born… and I can’t wait to see what place ebooks have in regard to libriomancy. I’ve wondered about that. I’m glad to hear there’s more Smudge in this one, too.
Yay! Just finished Libriomancer, and I’m very much looking forward to Codex Born!
I sent a text to my 25 year-old son, his response was ” Yah!” I second his statement, yah!
Hey, and my birthday falls conveniently the day before, making this a great present to myself!
Heck with that. Make someone else buy it for you for a present!
Oh, happydance. I am sensing a reread of Libriomancer in my future. And it is time to redouble the shoving-of-the-Libriomancer upon my hapless friends and family, so that they too can enjoy the sequel!
Woot cant wait to read it. Will you be doing a reading of it a Penguin Con? Also i notice there is a female on the cover and she is poseing in short shorts so will we see Mr. Hines in this pose?
I’ll probably read from Codex Born at Penguicon, but I think the weather might still be a little chilly for me to be running around in that outfit
