Welcome New Readers, and Mermaid gets KlausneredI wanted to say hello and welcome to all of the new readers who’ve found this blog over the past month or so. Please make yourselves comfortable, and feel free to say hello or to just hang out and lurk if you prefer. It’s interesting to see the pattern play itself out. I’ll post a rant or weigh in on a current controversy in the genre, and the readership grows. A few days later I’ll post a day-to-day update on the writing, and the friends list starts shrinking back down. C’est la vie. To be clear, this is not an all-rants, all-the-time blog, and I hope people will feel free to friend or defriend, and read or not as the mood strikes. The only real theme here is “Stuff Jim Felt Like Writing About.” That might be sexism in the Hugo Awards or it might be a kick-ass LEGO wheelchair. With my next book coming out in a month, I’ll probably be talking about that too, because even though it’s my fifth book with DAW, I still get excited and freaked out about this stuff. I hope to keep things interesting and entertaining most of the time, but if you don’t think so, that’s okay too.
On the other hand, it’s the first review of the book. Klausner is kind of like the first robin of spring. Her song might be a little off-key after the long winter, but that doesn’t matter because you know there will soon be an entire flock chirping up a storm outside your window. (Or, to extend the metaphor, leaving their droppings all over your beautiful book. But I’m not going to think about that today.) 50 comments to Welcome New Readers, and Mermaid gets Klausnered |

You noticed that too? Even with my small blogs, I tend to get a LOT more hits when I’m ranty instead of thoughtful. ::sigh::
People like the drama. Fortunately, the Internet seems to provide a neverending supply.
I have to say i have recently finished Goblin Quest, Goblin Hero, and Goblin war. FANTASTIC!! GREAT job… i know i am just a younger reader but, they were great. I want to work with animation when i grow up and have a job and the frist thing im going to do i contact yo and ask i can turn Jig’s adventures into a animated movie! i have been trying to convince my friends how great you books are they haven’t seen your greatness yet but im sure they will.
Thanks so much for writing those stories please email me about that animation idea i have.
From,
Your #1 Fan YOU ROCK!
Rachael,
Thank you - that’s wonderful to hear. Younger, older, as long as people are enjoying the books, I’m happy
Personally, I’d love to see an animated version of Jig and company. When you land that big animation job, shoot me an e-mail and I’ll hook you up with my agent so we can make Jig: The Animated Series!
Rachael - if you want to introduce your friends to Jig, they might be open to the two podcast adaptations of Jim’s goblins out there. “Goblin Hunter” (which is the short story that became chapter one of Goblin Quest) is at Clonepod ) and “Goblin Lullaby” is at Podcastle. Both are free to download in MP3 format, or can be listened to on the webpages. That’s how I first heard of Jig, and then when I met Jim at GenCon, I jumped at the chance to buy the goblin books.
Thanks i will try that… i think i might work i will write tomarrow if it does.. and you met Jim C. Hines that must of been so cool meeting a guy that wrote such GREAT books your lucky
Type later
Rachael

Rachael
I have a question.
I was thinking about the name Jig and noticed…
Jim C. Hines did you name Jig after yourself? Look
Jim-Jig Jig-Jim i never noticed that im surprised i didn’t though… Please reply soon.
Rachael
Not deliberately. A few people have pointed out similarities bewteen Jig and myself, though. We’re both nearsighted, both on the skinny side … Jig’s experience with getting picked on by the other goblins has a lot in common with my years in Junior High School
It was never a conscious choice, but I do think there’s a fair amount of myself in Jig. Even if I never had a cool fire-spider for a pet.
It would be cool to have a pet fire spider, but i might lose my hair.
So, i think its cool that a little bit of you travels with Jig. I never notice how much you guys had in commen though. I think its cool.
Are you thinking about writing more books about Jig anytime soon?
No immediate plans for more Jig stories, I’m afraid. I’m contracted through next year with the princess books, and I’ve got a new series I’ll probably be pitching at that point.
Your series about the princess’s are they like real girly kind of ones or do they fight and stuff like that?
Oh, they do their own fighting. My version of Sleeping Beauty is basically a fairy tale ninja, and Snow White is a fairly kick-butt witch. Cinderella rounds things off with a glass sword. Much fun
Thats cool for cinderella has a glass sword insted of glass shoes. Smart idea.
Are your books about your personel life
Hi Abel, whats up?
Abel,
I write pretty much all fantasy these days. There are elements of myself in every book, but they’re definitely not about my own life. Which is probably for the best. I’m too old to be fighting trolls and dragons these days.
Best,
Jim
JIM YOU ARE NOT OLD!!!!! i was looking at the other parts of your site and did the math because you said the year you were born and you are either 34 or 35 and that means your NOT OLD!!!! well not to old to fight…. im sure of that if you really wanted to you could.
I’m Sorry i meant Mr. Hines
What inspired you to become a writer?
Remember, Jim’s doing the “One Question Interviews”. You might want to send your questions in that way. He’s promised an answer to every question he gets that way. That way you can get your questions answered, AND he can focus on writing more books for us!
Thanks i will try thanks.
Jim C. Hines you are so lucky. You don’t have school anymore. YOu can do whatever you want. No homework.. except for bills, and writing your amazing books.. i guess. How did you become SUCH A GREAT WRITER???
Believe it or not, there are days I miss school. As for the writing, thank you! Call it 14 years of practice
Hmmmmm I never thought of it like that……
This is why your my favorite author and one of the people i look up to!
YOU ROCK!
Are You married
Abel if you read about Jim, um he’s kind of got a wife and two childern.
ok but is your name Jim C Hines
No, but i was just looking around the site, and i read the about jim section, and you know Jim C. Hines is probaly busy maybe writing his awsome books, so no I am not Jim C. Hines…. but, you know i think i might be saving him time. Sorry Abel.
::Grin:: I do try to keep up on the comments, but Rachel’s right about there only being so much time in the day for writing, e-mail, blog, day job, and so on. It’s a balancing act.
But yes, I’m married with two kids, one of whom currently calling me to help him find a missing balloon doggie…
Best,
Jim
I never noticed how much a writer has to do. How do all that in a day? I really wish there was some more Jig books coming out..-sigh- only like 1 or 2 years to go

Hi
For the RSVPing thing do I have to show up or something?
I believe you just comment there, and then show up in the discussion tomorrow. But the site should have the info.
Ok thanks you!
Wow! I was just on Amazon.com and saw that a person said somerime ago amazon was posting about a 4th Goblin book called Goblin King! Is there ever going to be a 4th Goblin book?
From,
Rachael
Sorry i meant sometime
Hi Rachael,
Here’s what I wrote in response to that Amazon forum:
If Amazon was advertising a fourth Jig book, it’s news to me. At the moment, I have no plans for a fourth goblin book. Anything’s possible, of course. But I’ll be working on the fourth princess book through 2010, and I’ve got an idea for a new series after that, so if I did change my mind and decide to do Jig #4, it wouldn’t be for quite a while.
Oh, ok thanks! I hope you do write and fourth Jig book. But, if you don’t Goblin Quest, Goblin Hero, and Goblin War were still really great books! I am thinking about reading your princess books though. I have to finish the two books i am curretly reading though.
Thank alot!
Rachael
YOU ROCK!
I put the word though after.. I am thinking about reading your princess books. I didn’t mean to put that though there…. So yeah!
Hey, i have a question.
How did you make your website so good? I mean like the everything?
Thanks! I use Wordpress, which is a software package that sets a lot of it up automatically. After that, I just started customizing everything, from making the banner to adjusting the colors and so on. Basically, lots of time and experimenting and learning how to use Wordpress until I got it all laid out the way I wanted.
COOL! So, who won that contest from yesterday?
I’m told it takes about two weeks to tally up the various entries, points, and so on. So we should know by the end of the month.
Ok, thank you very much! KEEP ROCKING!
